ECS Tuning Releases Big Brake Kits for Mk7 Golf and Golf GTI

Through in-house product testing and performance validation, the design team at ECS Tuning have put together affordable Big Brake Kits (BBK) for your MK7 Golf / GTI. The fronts, utilizing Genuine Volkswagen brake calipers from the MK5 R32 or B6/CC VR6 4Motion, you can instantly bolt on better braking and have confidence in the performance and reliability that these kits provide.

ECS 2-piece, semi-floating, slotted and cross drilled rotors are available. These rotors optimize the dispersion of heat, and feature lateral vibration dampening and considerable weight savings, for smooth, strong stops. Maximum weight savings over a standard one piece rotor are achieved due to the lightweight aluminum hat and 2 piece construction for a total reduction of 18.75 lbs combined for the fronts and 5.30 lbs combined for the rears, as compared to a standard one piece cast rotors.

With the ECS 345x30mm Front Big Brake Kit, the brake pad is moved further outboard from the center of the hub, thereby improving braking system torque, heat transfer and repeatable, high speed stopping. Compared to the original Golf’s 288x25mm or GTI’s 312x25mm brake rotors, it’s clear to see why the ECS BBK offers immediate improvements!

The ECS Rear Big Brake Kits convert the solid 272x10mm discs to ventilated 310x22mm discs for overall improved performance. To prevent brake pad deposits and reduce fade, ECS GEOMET® slotted or cross drilled and slotted rotors are available. Cross-drilling dissipates heat faster for better braking and reduced fade. Slotting cleans the pads by moving water, gasses, and contaminants away from the pad/rotor contact surface to further enhance braking performance.

To prevent rust pitting and corrosion damage, ECS GEOMET® rotors are sprayed with a special water-based solution, then heated to cure the coating and remove all oil residue remaining from the manufacturing process. These added steps create a durable, lasting rotor surface that resists road salt, solvents and other corrosives.

For 100% bolt on performance, ECS Exact Fit Stainless Steel brake lines have been custom fitted for each kit. Stainless reinforced brake lines provide more confident and dependable stopping by maintaining consistent brake pressure, long lasting corrosion resistance, and increased protection from failure compared to stock rubber lines.

Review: Saying Goodbye to the CC V6

For all its size and its global reach, Volkswagen is still, in many ways, a deeply human company. There was, for instance, the Bugatti Veyron an ego project if ever there was one. Then the purchase of Ducati, a move most called folly. And then there was the Phaeton, the Volkswagen that most folks can’t afford. Not only were these moves all strange, I’m sure that they made VW’s accountants furious. None of them made good business sense, but they were all deeply interesting and they all are evidence of the heart that beats at the center of VW. Among these follies is the CC, a car that everyone agrees is rakishly handsome, but that no one really wanted to buy. The car couldn’t last, but the world is brighter for its having been in it. With the approach debut of the Arteon, it seems like a good time to look back on its sadly departing predecessor. The version I drove, because I live in Canada, is a V6 Wolfsburg Edition, which apparently isn’t available in the States. Nor is the V6, not as...

More 3.0-Liter TDI Settlement Details Expected by January 31

Volkswagen and the TDI Plaintiff’s Steering Committee were in court today for another status conference following the agreement in principal reached earlier this week. Little new information was given at the conference held before Judge Charles Breyer today, but the court ordered the parties to develop a formal settlement agreement, class action notices, and a class notice plan by January 31, 2017. For now, though, owners still don’t know how much to expect in compensation. Elizabeth Cabraser, lead Counsel for the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee reaffirmed in a statement today that the compensation would be “substantial.” The potential cost to Volkswagen is widely reported to exceed $1 billion, though, with an additional $225 million going into an environmental trust to help offset excess emissions. Buy back offers are still only expected for the oldest 20,000 of the roughly 80,000 VW Group vehicles sold in America with the 3.0-liter TDI engine. Those vehicles are mostly SUVs, like ...
