If you’ve ever experienced the Nurburgring’s 12.9 mile North Loop on a video game, chances are that you’ve employed a strategy that encouraged liberal use of the curbing on nearly all of its 70+ corners. It’s a bold strategy, but in the virtual world, consequences of being a bit to hard on the curbs is close to zero and the reset button is there if you need it. Unfortunately for those tackling the circuit in real life, the stakes are much, much higher and the curbs are not nearly as forgiving.
Now we can’t quite see what the impetus of this roll was, but based on the behavior of the R32 mid-corner, we can take a pretty good guess. The car looks as though it’s been launched as the inside two wheels divorce themselves from the track’s surface, while the outside two gain increased grip due to suspension compression in the corner. It’s a recipe for disaster, and the subsequent roll is difficult to watch. Luckily for the driver, he appears to be uninjured and walks away under his own power. If only we could say the same about his R32.
