Find of the Day: 1983 Volkswagen Rabbit Truck

Sometimes cars are built for performance.  Other times, cars are built to fit a certain aesthetic goal.  And in some instances, cars are built just because the owner could.  This Volkswagen Rabbit Truck fits firmly within that last category.

There’s quite a lot going on here, so we’ll do our best to run it all down.  First and foremost, the truck has been stretched to ride on a 12′ wheelbase, with the majority of that going towards a larger passenger compartment.  The seller’s pictures of the stretched portion aren’t the best, but from what we can deduce, Mk1 Golf rear seats and glass have been fitted to retain a somewhat OEM feel.  While completing the body work, the builder saw fit to shave the doors, raise the strut towers 2.5″, install a canvas sliding roof, and give the hood custom forward tilt hinges. To make the truck stand out that much more, air suspension has been installed with a bed-mounted tank and compressor setup.

The seller notes that while the truck does run and drive, some work is required to get it to 100%.  It will be the new owner’s responsibility to firm up a few lose ends like the disconnected stereo and gas gauge, but aside from that, this truck is ready to go for whoever coughs up the $12.5k Buy-it-Now price.  Additional images and information can be found right here.

Waterfest Moves to Atco Dragway

Waterfest 24 will be held at Atco Dragway, in Atco, New Jersey. The summer event will take place at its new venue on July 21 and 22. Long held in Englishtown, New Jersey, the festival has been such a large part of the VW scene that the latest iteration of the Golf even comes with optional “Englishtown” wheels . The new venue, however, is an NHRA drag track a scant 52 miles southwest of Englishtown. The ¼ mile drag track opened in 1960, which makes it the oldest drag strip in New Jersey. The announcement came today on a social media post that announced the new location. Waterfest is North America’s largest VW/Audi show. As many 20,000 people show up for the annual show, making the second largest show in the world—with Worthersee being number one. 2018 will be Waterfest’s 24 th year in existence.
