9,000 rpm. 2,000 cc. 800 kg. 310 hp. Two wheel drive. These numbers, when considered together, tell quite a story. Somehow, though, their sum, this Mk1 Scirocco hillclimber, is so much more than those parts.
I think we can all agree that, among the many reasons to envy Europeans, the strength of their Hillclimb culture is perhaps the greatest.
This ‘Rocco has a 2.0-liter engine that used to power an A4 Touring Car tuned by Minichberger, a top European Hillclimb tuner.
The engine is paired to a six-speed sequential gearbox that sends 310 hp to the front wheels, which you may have noticed are quite a lot farther apart than they came from the factory.
To cover the gap between the body and the new track width, the standard body panels have been replaced with modified, carbon fiber panels.
The lovely result looks great and moves like a startled cat, to boot.
