Racers Build Sideways Race Van, But Not in the Drift Sense in the Other, More Permanent Sense

What do you do when you’re known for pushing the envelope and must push it farther at another event? It’s a problem that was faced by Lady GaGa after she showed up to the Grammys in an egg and it’s a problem the Speedycop LeMons race team faced this year.

Through the years the team has been building some of the wildest race cars in the series and they, with the help of The Gang of Outlaws just revealed their next project, which is actually kind of two cars… a sideways microbus.

While other teams spend time ensuring that their cars are the fastest, the most reliable, or the prettiest, Speedycop and the Gang of Outlaws has been more focused on making a car the likes of which have (probably) never been seen.

The team rotated a 1976 bay window bus and fastened it to a 1988 Rabbit, with 16 valve GTI engine.

How long do you have to stare at a classic on the rotisserie before this crosses your mind? Nobody knows, but we do know that this bus had been sitting in a Tennessee field for close to 20 years before being used here.

Named the “Trippy Tippy Hippy Van” it will make its racing debut at the “Kentucky (Demo) Derby” at National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park, in Bowling Green, Kentucky this weekend!

As Jalopnik’s Jason Torchinksy points out, the attention to detail here is really impressive. In order to, you know, see, the top and bottom of the van were removed. But rather than just leave it, they added Lexan panels with pictures of a real microbus’s underside printed onto it. There’s also a picture of a trippy hippy glued onto the windshield.

We can’t wait to see what will undoubtedly be deeply hilarious video footage of the bus racing on its side.

Audi Teases A7 Details with New Video

Audi’s gearing up to unveil the latest iteration of the A7, and to get you excited they’ve released this teaser video focusing on the details. The lights, the lines, the interior are all teased here, and though on its own the video doesn’t give us a strong sense of what the whole car will look like, with all of the other details we’ve seen so far we now have a pretty good sense of what’s coming. As you might expect, the updated A7 will look broadly similar to the outgoing A7, but will differ in the details. Based on what we’ve seen, the changes look good. As was reported yesterday, we’re expecting a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine, a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo, a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, and an RS7 that could reportedly make up to 700 hp thanks to the Porsche Panamera’s hybrid drivetrain.
