Watch: Food Prep and Rallycross Driving do Not Mix

As anyone who is a fan of Rallycross will already know, Rallycross cars accelerate violently, decelerate violently, corner violently, and do just about everything with a ferocity that would put a Grizzly bear on steroids to shame. Naturally then, you’ll have asked yourself how easy it is to do normal, everyday tasks in one.

Not, it turns out, is the answer. Celebrity chef DJ BBQ recently went for a ride in an RX2 car (a lower-powered series that runs alongside the full-fat FIA World Rallycross Championship) with the voice of European Rallycross, Andrew Coley, to find out just how hard it is to assemble lunch from the passenger seat of a Rallycross car.

And as almost all of the burger DJ BBQ was tasked with making flies out of his hands and into the air during one of the sport’s famous jumps, two things become eminently clear: First, whoever’s job it is to clean up this rallycross car is going to have a very unpleasant afternoon; and second, rallycross driving seems to be about as a physical an experience as boxing.

You can watch Johan Kristoffersson and Petter Solberg back behind the wheel of the VW Polo RX on August 4, as the series is back in action at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres, in Canada.

More 3.0-Liter TDI Settlement Details Expected by January 31

Volkswagen and the TDI Plaintiff’s Steering Committee were in court today for another status conference following the agreement in principal reached earlier this week. Little new information was given at the conference held before Judge Charles Breyer today, but the court ordered the parties to develop a formal settlement agreement, class action notices, and a class notice plan by January 31, 2017. For now, though, owners still don’t know how much to expect in compensation. Elizabeth Cabraser, lead Counsel for the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee reaffirmed in a statement today that the compensation would be “substantial.” The potential cost to Volkswagen is widely reported to exceed $1 billion, though, with an additional $225 million going into an environmental trust to help offset excess emissions.
