VW Will Sponser Germany’s National Soccer Team

When Germany looks to take UEFA Euro cup from Portugal in 2020, the team will wear Volkswagen’s logo on its jerseys.

That’s thanks to a deal with the Deutscher Fussball-Bund (DFB), Germany’s national soccer association. The two have agreed to a sponsorship deal that sees VW become the DFB’s new mobility partner.

The sponsorship is set to start on January 1, 2019, and last five and a half years. According to German reports, the deal is worth between 25 and 30 million euros per year.

Volkswagen will replace longtime sponsors, Mercedes as the official mobility partner. And when we say long-time, we aren’t kidding. Mercedes and the DFB have now been partners for 45 years.

“The partnership with the German Football Association is a great event for us,” said VW CEO Herbert Diess in a statement. “We want to be a partner in the national team, and we want to be on the side of the entire German football with its 25,000 clubs and seven million members.”

This is far from VW’s first interaction with the DFB, though. Since 2012, VW has sponsored the DFB Cup, which it will continue to do.

Waterfest Moves to Atco Dragway

Waterfest 24 will be held at Atco Dragway, in Atco, New Jersey. The summer event will take place at its new venue on July 21 and 22. Long held in Englishtown, New Jersey, the festival has been such a large part of the VW scene that the latest iteration of the Golf even comes with optional “Englishtown” wheels . The new venue, however, is an NHRA drag track a scant 52 miles southwest of Englishtown. The ¼ mile drag track opened in 1960, which makes it the oldest drag strip in New Jersey. The announcement came today on a social media post that announced the new location. Waterfest is North America’s largest VW/Audi show. As many 20,000 people show up for the annual show, making the second largest show in the world—with Worthersee being number one. 2018 will be Waterfest’s 24 th year in existence.
