Skoda’s New Electric Concept Debuts in VR

Traveling to far off locations may sound like a delight, but really it’s mostly a drag. People who are in a foreign nation are almost invariably kind of lost, very tired, and probably sore. Thankfully Skoda has a solution. Instead making you travel to Shanghai to see its new Vision E electric concept, it’s presenting it with a free VR app.

That’s right, you too can live the dream of the electric future, with the help of virtual reality. By simply downloading Skoda VR through the Google Play Store or the iTunes store, you can get a pretty good idea of what Skoda’s first ever all electric concept car will look like in three dimensions.

The Vision E is based on VW’s MEB platform, so much like the I.D. family of cars, this crossover will have much more interior space than a standard car as well as a very low center of gravity. Also like the I.D. family, Skoda projects that the Vision E will have a range of 500 km (or about 310 miles according to the European driving cycle).

Two electric motors drive all four wheels and will get this concept up to a top speed of 180 km/h (111 mph). Skoda’s electric concept also previews inductive charging, by which method the Vision E can be charged without the use of a cord, by driving over a charging pad.

Skoda says that along with previewing the electric future, the Vision E previews Skoda’s design future.

“Over the last few years, with our ŠKODA design language, we have produced several sensational concept cars that point the way to the brand’s future,” said Karl Neuhold, Head of Exterior Design at ŠKODA. “The new ŠKODA VISION E is now presenting the next step towards a future-oriented design.”

Project SportWagen: Going Stage 2 with APR

Event Report: Southern Worthersee 2015

There’s been much ado about this year’s SoWo since this past Saturday night, when Instagram, Facebook and other Social Media channels exploded with images and commentary focusing on the event’s bad eggs. But first, let’s chat a bit about the event itself. Our journey started early Thursday morning as part of the Orchid Euro/Coolwater cruise to the event. What should have taken about 12-13 hours ended up taking much more, as we stopped to help any Volkswagen that needed our assistance. And while the extended commute time wasn’t ideal, it proved to highlight the ‘no person left behind’ spirit of the Volkswagen community- arguably one of the scene’s best qualities.
