Akrapovič Swiss Importer Shows First Titanium Exhaust for New Volkswagen GTI

Slovenian exhaust manufacturer Akrapovič has been making a name for itself for years with its lightweight titanium exhaust systems for primarily motorcycles, exotic sports cars and even Le Mans racers like the Audi R18 e-tron quattro. Perhaps even more interesting to our readers though is what appears to be like a move toward Volkswagen with a new system for the Golf GTI Mk7. Though an official news release or specs have yet to be released from Akrapovič, the firm’s Swiss distributor Carex has fitted a first system to this blue Mk7 that was on display at the Geneva Motor Show. Akrapovič confirmed the system if a full-titanium Slip-On Line for the GTI, and clearly you can see it benefits from the usual Akrapovic premium touches like a carbon fiber exhaust tip printed with the company’s two-color logo. Of course, the Akrapovič exhaust system wasn’t the only modification on the Carex GTI. Being a multi-line distributor, the car also benefitted from H&R coilovers and wore gold BBS

Golf Edition – Concept for 40th Anniversary of the Golf

This one is a little confusing. 2014 is the 40th Anniversary of the Golf and we would expect at least some kind of special edition Golf to celebrate. This “Golf Edition” is labeled as a concept of a special anniversary edition, so we’ll have to wait and see what VW does. Volkswagen AG Press Release… Concept car for the 40th anniversary of the Golf – Golf Edition captivates with the ambience of a luxury saloon - Special “Magic Morning” paint job and exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels - Exclusive two-tone leather upholstery puts the Golf into a league of its own Ten important facts about the world premiere of the Golf Edition: 1. Golf Edition as an exclusive concept car for the 40th anniversary of the globally successful best-seller. 2. The Golf Edition concept car was developed especially for China. 3. Concept car with new “Magic Morning” special colour. 4. Concept car with exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels. 5. Two-tone leather upholstery with exclusive diamond pattern stitch in the style of

GTD Is Not Dead for U.S. Market

Ok so here is the deal… There were numerous reports that the GTD won’t be coming to the U.S. market based on comments made at the New York Auto Show. We spoke to contacts at VWoA and it turns out that it is complicated (surprise). The higher output 2.0 TDI engine in the GTD is not currently available in the U.S. market. Because of the more stringent emissions standards in the U.S. market, the high output GTD TDI engine would require urea injection which necessitates adding a urea storage tank in the rear area of the car. The German market GTD doesn’t require the extra urea injection until EU6 emissions regs go into effect in 2016. So our emissions calendar is different than the one in Europe. That means the schedule to put the urea tank into the GTD for the European market is different than our want/need to get it sooner. Volkswagen is still looking closely at the GTD and what could work for our market. Nothing is confirmed at this point. However, the GTD for the U.S. market is not de

Beijing Auto Show 2014 – Midsize Coupe Concept

What you see here is an MQB-based version of what could be the next generation Jetta. Granted we’d be surprised to see the blistered fenders and lowered stance make it to production (among other things) but the overall design hints heavily at what VW is capable of with a compact sedan and we like what we see. While some think this is a Jetta or Golf CC, this concept is a preview of a Chinese market-specific model roughly the size of a Jetta but wider and lower. Under the skin is VW’s new transverse modular toolkit (MQB) that the all-new Golf 7 is based on. While the Jetta just received a facelift, we expect the Jetta to move to the all-new MQB platform some time in 2017. The new Jetta should be a little bit wider, lower, lighter and a significant step up from the current car similar to the differences between the Golf 6 and Golf 7. It remains to be seen how much tamer the actual Chinese-market production car looks. However, we do know that if VW has already invested time in this for on

Beijing Auto Show 2014 – Volkswagen R 400 Study

Rumors of a Golf RS have been swirling for a while now and Volkswagen is teasing us with this R 400 concept. A wider, lower, lighter and far more powerful Golf R with 400 PS (395 hp) and AWD. No word of course on an actual production model or if we would see it here. However VW is gauging interest so fire up your email and let VW know what you think… Volkswagen AG Press Release: World premiere of the 400 PS Golf R 400 sports car concept - 280-km/h Golf showcases sporty potential of the model series - Exclusive Golf R 400 accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds - Design and technology of the Golf R 400 is based on motorsport Ten key facts on the world premiere of the Golf R 400: 1. Golf R 400 reflects the sporty potential of the model series. 2. The “400″ in Golf R 400 stands for its power of 400 PS. 3. The concept car develops 100 PS more than the Golf R. 4. Specific power of 200 PS per litre displacement and power-to-weight ratio of 3.55 PS per kilogram are on the same level as a super

Beijing Auto Show 2014 – Volkswagen R400 Concept

We don’t have much information to go on yet with these teaser drawings, but Volkswagen is going to show this design study at the Beijing Auto Show. We assume the 400 refers to the horsepower and by the looks of things it is powered by the EA888 2.0T engine. There have been lots of rumors of a Golf RS model out of Germany and power train rumors have been fluctuating between a hot version of the 2.0T or a turbocharged 3.0l VR6 similar to what was in the Design Vision GTI. Either way, we’re excited to see that there is some hardcore life left in the engineers at VW and look forward to seeing some version of this coming to production. We’ll know more about this concept in the next couple days. The post Beijing Auto Show 2014 – Volkswagen R400 Concept appeared first on VWVortex . from VWVortex http://ift.tt/1r2tOH0 via IFTTT

Beijing Auto Show 2014 – Midsize Coupe Concept

Volkswagen has released teaser images of the “Midsize Coupe Concept” which will debut at the Beijing Auto Show. While Volkswagen is referring to this as a midsize car developed specifically for the Chinese market, it is essentially an MQB component platform Jetta concept. Could this give us a glimpse of what the next generation Jetta looks like? Maybe. We look forward to seeing the actual photos in a few days time. Meanwhile here is the short but sweet press release and a gallery of drawings… Wolfsburg / Beijing, April 2014. It’s a four-door coupé the like of which has never been seen before in this vehicle class: the New Midsize Coupé concept car. Volkswagen has brought the concept car to Beijing for its world premiere at Auto China 2014. The ‘New’ part goes without saying: the New Midsize Coupé is as new as a new car can be. ‘Coupé’ is also unambiguous: the New Midsize Coupé is low in height (1,422 mm) and very wide (1,838 mm), it has a low visual centre of gravity, short overhangs
