Volkswagen Passenger Cars Brand Delivers 920,700 Vehicles in Period to February

Deliveries by Volkswagen Passenger Cars remained stable in February. The brand handed over 413,700 vehicles last month, thus matching deliveries for the same month of the previous year in a difficult environment. A total of 920,700 (January-February 2014: 935,200; -1.6 percent) vehicles were therefore delivered to customers in the first two months of the year. “The situation on world markets remains tense”, Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, commented. “Thanks to a convincing model range, the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand was able to maintain deliveries at the high level of the prior year. In particular the new Passat as well as the Golf and Golf Sportsvan models continue to meet with a very positive response from our customers”, Klingler continued.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars handed over 246,800 (245,300; +0.6 percent) vehicles to customers on the overall European market in the period to February. In Western Europe (excluding Germany), deliveries improved by 3.8 percent to 129,600 (124,800) units. In Germany, deliveries by Volkswagen Passenger Cars in the first two months of the year rose to 85,900 (80,600; +6.7 percent). In Central and Eastern Europe, 31,300 (39,900; -21.5 percent) customers took possession of a new Volkswagen. Deliveries in Russia decreased to 12,000 (20,000; -40.1 percent) units as a result of the ongoing difficult market situation.

In the Asia-Pacific region the brand recorded a slight 0.5 percent rise in deliveries from January to February, handing over 475,200 (472,600) vehicles to customers, of which 441,600 (437,700; +0.9 percent) were delivered in China (incl. Hong Kong).

The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand grew deliveries in the North America region by 3.6 percent to 85,700 (82,700) units, of which 49,200 (50,600; -2.8 percent) were handed over in the United States. In the South America region the company delivered 83,900 (103,400; -18.8 percent) vehicles in the period to February, of which 64,000 (79,900; -20.0 percent) were handed over in Brazil.

Review: Saying Goodbye to the CC V6

For all its size and its global reach, Volkswagen is still, in many ways, a deeply human company. There was, for instance, the Bugatti Veyron an ego project if ever there was one. Then the purchase of Ducati, a move most called folly. And then there was the Phaeton, the Volkswagen that most folks can’t afford. Not only were these moves all strange, I’m sure that they made VW’s accountants furious. None of them made good business sense, but they were all deeply interesting and they all are evidence of the heart that beats at the center of VW. Among these follies is the CC, a car that everyone agrees is rakishly handsome, but that no one really wanted to buy. The car couldn’t last, but the world is brighter for its having been in it. With the approach debut of the Arteon, it seems like a good time to look back on its sadly departing predecessor. The version I drove, because I live in Canada, is a V6 Wolfsburg Edition, which apparently isn’t available in the States. Nor is the V6, not as...

More 3.0-Liter TDI Settlement Details Expected by January 31

Volkswagen and the TDI Plaintiff’s Steering Committee were in court today for another status conference following the agreement in principal reached earlier this week. Little new information was given at the conference held before Judge Charles Breyer today, but the court ordered the parties to develop a formal settlement agreement, class action notices, and a class notice plan by January 31, 2017. For now, though, owners still don’t know how much to expect in compensation. Elizabeth Cabraser, lead Counsel for the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee reaffirmed in a statement today that the compensation would be “substantial.” The potential cost to Volkswagen is widely reported to exceed $1 billion, though, with an additional $225 million going into an environmental trust to help offset excess emissions. Buy back offers are still only expected for the oldest 20,000 of the roughly 80,000 VW Group vehicles sold in America with the 3.0-liter TDI engine. Those vehicles are mostly SUVs, like ...
