Work. Life. Solutions. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles at the IAA 2014

  • Brand from Hannover exhibits customised solutions covering all requirements

  • Comprehensive innovations reduce emissions

  • e-Load up! introduces the electrification of the model series

Solutions for work and life – or “Work. Life. Solutions.” is the exhibition slogan chosen by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles at this year’s IAA Commercial Vehicles Show which opens its doors on 25 September 2014. The manufacturer of lightweight commercial vehicles based in the state capital of Lower Saxony is planning a self-confident presentation on its home turf. “We will exhibit the right solution for all professional and private vicissitudes in life. We know what customers want and we deliver the goods,” says Bram Schot, Chairman of the Management Board of the brand.

The brand’s complete range of lightweight commercial vehicles for work and leisure time will be on show. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will present visitors with the right companions for a wide range of requirements – based on the Amarok, Caddy, Crafter and T5 model series.

“We want to show our customers an unrivalled variety of mobility solutions for goods and passenger transportation,” says Schot. “The commercial vehicle business is just as diversified as its customers, who come from all trades and service sectors in our industry. In addition, public authorities, the police, fire brigades and municipalities make up an important part of our buyers.” Specialisation is the magic recipe to meet customer wishes and this is reflected on the show stand. There are 50 vehicles on show in Hall 12 sorted according to industry sectors and customers on a stand totalling about 7,500 m2 in area. Another 30 goods and passenger transportation solutions are in the outside area opposite the hall. Visitors can test drive selected models.

This year’s IAA show continues a market trend. City delivery vehicles, vans and pickups are becoming lighter, more efficient and more economical. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles are presenting innovations in all model series with special focus on powerful drive systems with the highest possible fuel economy. Emission-reducing drive systems are top priority at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Light commercial vehicles with eco-efficient BlueMotion Technology or with EcoFuel natural gas engines are an integral part of the model range.

The e-Load up!, which will be seen for the first time on the stand, is Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ debut to introduce the electrification of its model series. It offers practical solutions for inner-city, zero-emission delivery or customer service traffic. The e-Load up! is presented as a ready-for-market vehicle. Equipped with a zero-emission electric drive it is highly suitable for courier or servicing traffic on repeated daily routes up to 100 kilometres.

Review: Saying Goodbye to the CC V6

For all its size and its global reach, Volkswagen is still, in many ways, a deeply human company. There was, for instance, the Bugatti Veyron an ego project if ever there was one. Then the purchase of Ducati, a move most called folly. And then there was the Phaeton, the Volkswagen that most folks can’t afford. Not only were these moves all strange, I’m sure that they made VW’s accountants furious. None of them made good business sense, but they were all deeply interesting and they all are evidence of the heart that beats at the center of VW. Among these follies is the CC, a car that everyone agrees is rakishly handsome, but that no one really wanted to buy. The car couldn’t last, but the world is brighter for its having been in it. With the approach debut of the Arteon, it seems like a good time to look back on its sadly departing predecessor. The version I drove, because I live in Canada, is a V6 Wolfsburg Edition, which apparently isn’t available in the States. Nor is the V6, not as...

More 3.0-Liter TDI Settlement Details Expected by January 31

Volkswagen and the TDI Plaintiff’s Steering Committee were in court today for another status conference following the agreement in principal reached earlier this week. Little new information was given at the conference held before Judge Charles Breyer today, but the court ordered the parties to develop a formal settlement agreement, class action notices, and a class notice plan by January 31, 2017. For now, though, owners still don’t know how much to expect in compensation. Elizabeth Cabraser, lead Counsel for the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee reaffirmed in a statement today that the compensation would be “substantial.” The potential cost to Volkswagen is widely reported to exceed $1 billion, though, with an additional $225 million going into an environmental trust to help offset excess emissions. Buy back offers are still only expected for the oldest 20,000 of the roughly 80,000 VW Group vehicles sold in America with the 3.0-liter TDI engine. Those vehicles are mostly SUVs, like ...
