Volkswagen Motorsport International Newsletter

With Volkswagen participating in so many forms of Motorsport around the world, it’s often difficult to keep track of their performance. Luckily for us, Volkswagen Motorsport goes through the trouble of rounding up all of the key information from their various race series, and puts it all in one press release. Let’s get started. Red Bull Global Rallycross (GRC) Andretti drivers pick up important championship points in Charlotte After the victory at the Global Rallycross race in New York a week ago, the Volkswagen team Andretti Autosport suffered a slight setback in their fight for the championship at the fifth race of the season in Charlotte. On the extremely rough Dirt Track in the US state of North Carolina, unusually the two Andretti drivers Scott Speed (USA) and Tanner Foust (USA) did not finish in the top three in their Volkswagen Polo RX Supercars with over 500 hp: Speed finished fifth, Foust, hindered by tyre problems, was eighth. Victory went to Ken Block (USA). The former ...

Luckily for us, Volkswagen Motorsport goes through the trouble of rounding up all of the key information from their various race series, and puts it all in one press release. Let’s get started. Red Bull Global Rallycross Foust celebrates his first victory of the season in New York Tanner Foust (USA), in a Volkswagen Polo RX Supercar with more than 500 hp, driven for Andretti Autosport, brought home his first victory of the season at the fourth Global Rallycross round of the season. In Uniondale in the US state of New York, on the circuit covering just over 751 metres that was constructed specially for the event, the two-time Global Rallycross Champion initially asserted himself against his team-mate Scott Speed (USA). The apparent one-two victory for the Volkswagen brand didn’t last long, however, since Speed was disqualified after the race for ign...

Waterfest Preview: Volkswagen Perspective

In case you weren’t already aware, the largest Audi and Volkswagen enthusiast show of the year takes place this coming weekend at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. Spanning both Saturday and Sunday, last year’s event boasted nearly 25,000 avid fans of Audi and Volkswagen models, not to mention a huge vendor area, car show, drag racing and auto crossing. Even better, weather this year is expected to be incredibly good thanks to a lack of rain and a massive cooling courtesy of the polar vortex. What you’ll see: Vendors Though not the headline feature, we list the vendor area first and foremost. Waterfest has become the place to see and/or buy almost anything for your car. Vendors range from tuning shops to parts manufacturers and even used parts guys. The size and scope of the vendor area is really unrivalled in the American show scene and worth checking out if you are at all interested in purchasing something for your car. In addition, some of the coolest modified cars skip the auto s...

Rumor: Volkswagen Group in Talks to Acquire Fiat Chrysler Says Germany’s Manager Magazin Reports

We were once told by a top executive at Audi that Germany’s Manager Magazin is where other top executives float ideas in the form of rumor. Whether or not then this means it is a floated idea or a line on actual happenings remains to be known, but a rumor this morning out of Germany is that the Volkswagen Group is looking to acquire Fiat and Chrysler. On the surface, this sounds a bit far fetched and incredibly hard to manage. In addition to the Volkswagen Group owned brands of Audi, Ducati, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, MAN, Scania, SEAT, Skoda and Volkswagen, this could potentially add in Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Fiat, Lancia, Maserati, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram. Why do such a thing? German automotive industry magazine AutoZeitung suggests it would be to both bolster the company’s American sales base and also give it a further foothold in commercial truck business. Could those Volkswagen Commercial, MAN and Scania trucks be sold as Rams? Ferdinand Piech has made no secret of his i...

APR Releases Upgraded Valve Spring System

APR is pleased to present the APR Valve Spring System. The APR Valve Spring System is a high performance, lightweight upgrade designed to increase valve control and eradicate valve float common on many applications. APR’s design specifications called for a valve spring, retainer and spring seat combination that doesn’t overpower and snap the OEM valves or erode the aluminum spring seat, while still maintaining exceptional valve control. The result is an advanced design that’s 28% lighter yet 20% stiffer than the high performance OEM Golf R setup and is proven to eliminate the OEM valve train’s weakest link. We call it Performance Without Compromise! Key Points: Increase valve train control 71% weight reduction over OEM Golf R retainers 19% weight reduction over OEM Golf R springs 20% stiffness increase over OEM Golf R springs Eradicates TSI K04 “valve float” issues Supports higher revving applications Weight saving beehive spring design ASTM A877A OTSC round wire steel springs 6AL4V A...

FIA World Rallycross Championship Belgium: Heikkinen claims first win of the season in the Polo RX Supercar Celebrations at Marklund Motorsport after round six of this season’s FIA World Rallycross Championship: Toomas “Topi” Heikkinen (FIN) produced a consistently strong display in the Volkswagen Polo RX Supercar in Mettet, Belgium, to claim overall victory for the Swedish team. Heikkinen had to settle for third place after the opening two heats, while team-mate Anton Marklund (S) – also in the Polo RX Supercar – held the overall lead. However, Heikkinen then produced a flawless performance in the final race to climb to the top of the overall standings, whil...

Event: GTI International 2014

27 years. As VAG Enthusiast shows go, Britain’s GTI International (a.k.a. “Inters”) might just be the granddaddy. No doubt, it is also the biggest of its kind in the UK, gathering custom and high-performance Volkswagen Group models from far and wide and bringing them together at the Shakespeare County Raceway. Like other events in the USA, a quarter mile drag strip is one of the main focuses of the event. That the strip also boasts grandstands for roughly 3,000 assures there’ll be plenty on hand to witness each run. This might be why many of the top tuning companies in the UK come here to settle scores. Of course, there’s also the show itself. Who doesn’t like looking at handsomely (and occasionally not so handsomely) tailored cars sitting in the warm summer sun. This area includes a hard paved show field for the top crowd-getters, dedicated club display areas and more. Vendors are also part of the deal here. This includes everything from flashy tuner displays to more Sanford ...
