Even with the increased emphasis on fuel economy and decreasing ecological impact, Georg Kacher says that the next GTI will pack 300hp, and spawn a 400hp RS version in addition to a 350hp Golf R.  In a piece for Automobile, the industry insider reports that the next generation hot hatch will be an evolution of the seventh generation car, gaining infotainment features while reducing overall weight by 50-100lbs to further assist in efficiency and speed. As to how exactly the eighth generation GTI will make such impressive numbers in all guises, Kacher says that the current Golf R engine will make its way to the GTI, but other power trains have yet to be approved.  Traditional Volkswagen fans will be pleased to hear that narrow-angle V6 power is still very much on the table for R and RS models, according to this report. A staple of the European Audi and Porsche tuning scene for quite some time, high quality Carbon Fiber aesthetic upgrades have officially made their way to the Mk1 Volkswagen platform.  Making up for any lost time, Carbon Works Berlin has partnered with hypercar manufacturer Pagani to offer a dashboard bespoke for the first generation Golf, finished in the same fabric weave you’d find on the flanks of a $1.6M Huayra. As you can see from the image above, Carbon Works Berlin has taken a certain liberty in their design, meaning that you won’t be able to reuse the traditional gauge cluster with this upgrade.  Instead, purchasers will need to swap in a triangular cluster like those seen in formula cars from manufacturers like Stack or Racepak.  Carbon Works did not list a price for the item, but we’re quite sure that it won’t be cheap. Fuel consumption up to 15 per cent lower New radio and navigation systems are also available for the Cabriolet A new engine generation is now providing more driving fun in the Golf Cabriolet. At the same time, fuel consumption figures for the four TSI and two TDI engines have been lowered by up to 15 per cent. The new TSI engines in the Golf Cabriolet now deliver 77 kW / 105 PS, 92 kW / 125 PS, 110 kW / 150 PS and in the case of the GTI Cabriolet 162 kW / 220 PS. Diesel engines are available with 81 kW / 110 PS and 110 kW / 150 PS. Enhanced driving fun without regrets is on offer in the Golf GTI Cabriolet, for example: the 220 PS Cabriolet accelerates from 0 –100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds, (predecessor 210 PS and 7.3 seconds). At the same time, fuel consumption (NEDC) falls by more than 15 per cent to only 6.5 l/100 km. The diesel engines of the new generation are even stronger and more efficient than their predecessors.
