VW’s new version of the Polo GTI is debuting this week at the Paris Auto Show. Now powered by the EA888 1.8l turbo with 192hp, the new Polo has lots of potential. No plans to offer it here at this stage, although Volkswagen of America is watching the sub-compact category carefully. FIA World Rallycross Championship Marklund Motorsport in pole position in race for Team title Marklund Motorsport improved its prospects of winning the Team title at the tenth round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at the Autodromo di Franciacorta in Italy. Volkswagen drivers Toomas “Topi” Heikkinen (FIN) and Anton Marklund (S) may have missed out on the final in their Polo RX Supercars, but they did score valuable points towards the team competition. The Marklund Motorsport team is now level on points with Swedish rivals Ford Olsberg MSE at the top of the championship with two rounds of the season remaining. A Volkswagen driver is also second in the Drivers’ Championship, in the form of Heikkinen. However, he can no longer win the title. Manfred Kantner (48), currently Managing Director of SEAT Deutschland GmbH, has been appointed Head of Sales India/Far East at the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand effective October 1. He succeeds Dr. Wolf-Stefan Specht (45), who already took over as Head of Sales Europe at the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand on September 1. In their new functions, both managers report to Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand.
