e-Golf First Drive

2015 e-Golf Specifications Plug-in electric vehicles have come a long way in just 7 years time. The last time I drove an all-electric drivetrain in a VW was in a euro-spec Golf 6. Back then it was unique among plug-in electric vehicles in that it felt and largely drove like a normal Golf – something of a revelation back then when electric vehicles had lots of compromises, lacked refinement and generally felt like beta versions of some future vehicle. In the end Volkswagen felt the Golf 6 plug-in electric wasn’t quite ready for prime time in our market as battery technology and costs were still rapidly evolving and electric vehicles remained a niche segment. Volkswagen is ready now to enter the U.S. market with their extremely solid Golf 7 based e-Golf and boy have things improved in just a few short years. This new e-Golf is quiet, refined, solid and surprisingly fun to drive. With nearly 200 lbs. feet of torque, simply dipping into the throttle produces a flow of torque pushing you i...

Volkswagen Motorsport International Newsletter

With Volkswagen participating in so many forms of Motorsport around the world, it’s often difficult to keep track of their performance. Luckily for us, Volkswagen Motorsport goes through the trouble of rounding up all of the key information from their various race series, and puts it all in one press release. Let’s get started. Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup Jordan Lee Pepper crowned champion with fifth victory of the season The early start paid off for Jordan Lee Pepper. The South African won the second race at the Nürburgring on Sunday morning in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup and was subsequently crowned champion with one weekend of racing still to come. Pepper now has a 50-point lead from Jason Kremer (D) and can no longer be caught due to his larger number of victories this season. One of the first people to congratulate Pepper was compatriot Kelvin van der Linde, who was the Scirocco R-Cup champion in 2013. Second place went to Kremer, who won the first race on Saturday ahead of P...

Black Forest Industries Introduces GS2 Air Leather Shift Knob

Not to toot our own horn, but we’re pretty sure we’ve just raised the bar when it comes to one of the most frequently touched parts of your car’s interior. This heavyweight shift knob feels like butter in the palm of your hand, thanks due to the top grain perforated air leather that it’s wrapped in. While we’ve borrowed inspiration from shift knobs passed, we think we’ve really perfected the proportions this time around- with the 3/4 leather to metal ratio. Visually this thing leaves nothing to be desired. The machining is top notch, and the detailed crest coin gives that classy yet sporting look which elevates any interior’s level by at least 50 cool points. These are all actually made here in-house by us. The leather is cut to shape, sewn, stretched and glued into place to ensure the highest possible level of quality. The included threaded adapter works just like our previous GS1 and can be used to work with just about any VW / AUDI shift lever. The knob threads onto the earlier gen...
