Volkswagen has debuted its first premium plug-in hybrid sedan produced in China at Auto Shanghai this week.
The Phideon PHEV is set to hit the roads with 245 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, thanks to a 2.0-liter TFSI engine mated to an electric motor good for 50 km (31 miles) combustion-free driving.
The new Phideon also has some GTE LED daytime running lights and a GTE badge on the grille. Inside, meanwhile, it has wireless phone charging and ventilated seats that can massage you as barrel down the road.
Volkswagen’s tactic here is similar to Audi’s which is introducing the A6L plug-in hybrid, and 4 more plug-in hybrids by 2021 to the EV hungry Chinese market.
