So, I might be cheating here, because I’m, like, 90% sure Volkswagen wasn’t actually involved in this car’s construction. For one thing, they hadn’t even bothered to become a company yet in 1927.
For another thing, this particular example isn’t exactly a Bugatti. It is exactly like a 1927 Bugatti Type 35 Grand Prix Racer, except that it was built by Argentina’s PurSang. But by God, if posting pre-war Grand Prix cars that are tenuously related to VW to the site is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
These things have been featured on Jay Leno’s Garage before, and Farah even drove PurSang’s Alfa Romeo 8C, but driving footage of such an elemental and elegant car never gets old.
To hear Farah say it, this Type 35 isn’t all that hard to drive on the road. It moves, it stops, and although it’s a bit small, it performs all of its automobilic duties without fault.
So celebrate the beginning of the weekend with this legendary Bugatti.
