Volkswagen says that it will be partnering with Chinese automaker Anhui Jianhuai Automobile Co. (JAC) to make electric vehicles.
“As we aim to be at the forefront of e-mobility, Volkswagen Group is looking forward to explore all options to set up a close and mutually beneficial partnership with JAC,” says Matthias Muller, VW CEO, in a press release.
The companies have only signed a Memorandum of Understand so far, but the two sides will now study the feasibility of a joint venture and are aiming to sign a formal agreement early in the new year.
Last year, China surpassed the US to become the single biggest electric car maker in the world, making it the perfect market for Volkswagen in its bid to produce millions of electric cars by 2025.
JAC mostly makes trucks, buses, commercial vehicles, in addition to components, engines and more.
