Volkswagen Group of America announced today that it has donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross in support of the relief efforts following the catastrophic floods in Louisiana.
The donation was made through the Volkswagen Group of America Foundation and will be allocated across the Red Cross’ relief operation in the state.
“Volkswagen Group of America extends its thoughts and concerns to all of those who have been affected by these devastating floods, including VWGoA dealers, employees and their families,” writes the company in a statement.
The money will go to providing food, shelter, health services, and other assistance to families affected by the floods.
In addition to the $100,000 already donated, VW will also provide matching funds to any employee who donates to the American Red Cross.
Flooding began in the middle of last month and since then an estimated 146,000 homes have been damaged by the flood. An estimated 1,500 American Red Cross volunteers have worked in Louisiana in that time.
